Nashville, July 28, 2024, The Europe Today: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced his ambitious plans to promote cryptocurrency if elected for a second term, aiming to establish the United States as a “bitcoin superpower.”
Speaking at a cryptocurrency conference in Nashville, Trump promised to make the U.S. the “crypto capital of the planet” and proposed creating a bitcoin “strategic reserve” utilizing the government’s current holdings. He also revealed plans to form a crypto advisory council and invited supporters at the conference to join it.
“We will have regulations, but from now on, the rules will be written by people who love your industry, not hate your industry,” Trump assured the audience.
Throughout his nearly hour-long speech, Trump contrasted his vision for the crypto market with the Biden administration’s regulatory efforts. He criticized the federal government for “blocking your way” and expressed his desire for cryptocurrency to be “mined, minted, and made” in the United States.
Trump’s newfound enthusiasm for cryptocurrency marks a significant shift from his earlier stance. In 2019, he dismissed digital currencies, claiming their “value is highly volatile and based on thin air,” and in 2021, he referred to bitcoin as a “scam.” However, his perspective has evolved, and this year, his campaign began accepting donations in cryptocurrency.
Trump’s proposals signal a notable pivot towards embracing digital currencies, as he seeks to capture the support of crypto investors and enthusiasts in his bid for the presidency.
