Paris, August 09, 2024, The Europe Today: NHC reports, Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has made history by clinching the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, ending the nation’s long wait for an Olympic gold. Nadeem’s remarkable throw of 92.97 meters not only secured him the top podium spot but also shattered the previous Olympic record, which had stood since the 2008 Beijing Games.
Nadeem achieved this historic feat with his second attempt in the final, a throw that eclipsed the previous record of 90.57 meters set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen. This victory marks Pakistan’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medal, the first in athletics, and the first Olympic gold in any discipline in 40 years.
The win is particularly significant as it ends a 32-year medal drought for Pakistan at the Olympics. The last time Pakistan won an Olympic medal was in 1992 when the national hockey team secured bronze in Barcelona by defeating the Netherlands 4-3.
In a fiercely competitive final, India’s Neeraj Chopra, the defending Olympic champion, claimed the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters. Grenada’s Anderson Peters took the bronze with an 88.54-meter throw.
The javelin final saw intense competition among the world’s top throwers, with Nadeem’s record-breaking performance standing out as the highlight. The top throws of the competition were:
- Arshad Nadeem (Pakistan) — 92.97m
- Neeraj Chopra (India) — 89.45m
- Anderson Peters (Grenada) — 88.54m
- Jakub Vadlejch (Czech Republic) — 88.50m
- Julius Yego (Kenya) — 87.72m
- Julian Weber (Germany) — 87.40m
Despite the disqualification of six of the seven athletes Pakistan sent to the Olympics, Nadeem’s triumph has brought immense pride to the nation, marking a new chapter in Pakistan’s sporting history.
