Mokpo, September 01, 2024, The Europe Today: Shuttlers Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, alongside Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, are set to aim for a triumphant finish at the Korean Open after advancing to the finals with impressive performances.
In the women’s doubles semi-finals held yesterday in Mokpo, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah delivered a stellar performance, defeating the top-seeded South Korean pair Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee with scores of 21-18, 21-13. The victory was particularly notable as it marked their first final appearance of the year and was achieved on Merdeka Day, adding a symbolic layer to their triumph.
The world No. 9 duo overcame previous setbacks against Baek and Lee, who had defeated them twice before—once in the Malaysian Masters final and again in the quarter-finals of the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. The win was a significant redemption for Pearly and Thinaah.
Pearly Tan expressed her satisfaction, stating, “We prepared well before this match as we knew it would be tough for us. This win means a lot for us as we lost to them twice before. It also feels great to win on our Independence Day and hopefully, we can give the country a better gift by winning again tomorrow (today).”
Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei also showed their determination as they progressed to the final. The results highlight the competitive spirit and skill of the shuttlers as they prepare for the decisive matches ahead.
