Beijing, October 31, 2024 — The Europe Today: Wang Huning, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, underscored the need for the CPPCC to strengthen its role as a specialized consultative body for China’s governance. Wang made the remarks while presiding over a meeting of the CPPCC National Committee’s Chairpersons Council on Wednesday.
Wang emphasized the importance of enhancing political advisors’ theoretical knowledge and refining their working mechanisms to promote more robust consultative democracy. He called on advisors to deepen research on key challenges in reform and offer actionable insights to advance China’s comprehensive reform agenda, with a focus on supporting economic recovery and growth.
Highlighting the value of historical knowledge and national unity, Wang urged advisors to bolster public understanding of the Chinese nation’s history and its collective identity. He also encouraged advisors to offer strategic suggestions for building China as a cultural powerhouse and enhancing its global outreach and communication.
The meeting also approved a new document from the CPPCC National Committee, which outlines the functions of its special committees and establishes updated regulations for consultations with Party and government bodies, aiming to strengthen the CPPCC’s role in political decision-making.
