Kuala Lumpur, November 24, 2024– The Europe Today: On November 23, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee Tô Lâm, accompanied by his spouse and a high-ranking delegation, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia and engaged with representatives of the Vietnamese community.
During the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Đinh Ngọc Linh provided an overview of the community, noting that over 30,000 Vietnamese nationals reside, study, and work across Malaysia’s western peninsula, including states like Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and Ipoh. He highlighted the community’s unity, diligence, and strong adherence to Vietnamese and Malaysian laws, along with their successful integration into Malaysian society.
President of the Malaysia-Việt Nam Friendship Association, Trần Thị Chang, expressed her hope for continued support from the Vietnamese Party, State, National Assembly, and Government for overseas Vietnamese (OV) communities. She called for creating investment opportunities for expatriates to contribute to Việt Nam’s growth and urged collaboration between Vietnamese and Malaysian authorities to resolve challenges faced by Vietnamese expats, such as ensuring equitable rights for Vietnamese spouses of Malaysian citizens.
During his remarks, General Secretary Tô Lâm emphasized that Việt Nam’s Party and State highly value the overseas Vietnamese community, including those in Malaysia, viewing them as an integral part of the nation and a vital resource for its development. He reiterated Việt Nam’s consistent policies to support OVs and encouraged the expatriates to abide by local laws, uphold the positive image of Vietnamese citizens, and actively integrate into Malaysian society while contributing to the home country’s progress.
Tô Lâm also highlighted the elevation of Việt Nam-Malaysia relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his visit. This milestone paves the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation, benefiting both nations’ peoples and contributing to peace, stability, and economic connectivity in the region and beyond.
The General Secretary urged the Vietnamese Embassy to address the community’s challenges swiftly, including matters of residency, work, business, and education, while promoting their legal status and integration. This, he noted, would further strengthen the ties between Việt Nam and Malaysia as the two countries embark on a new phase of collaboration.
