Baku, November 30, 2024 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov held a productive meeting with Masaki Ishikawa, Special Representative of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Central Asia, the Caucasus, and GUAM. The discussion, which took place in Baku, focused on expanding economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan.
The talks highlighted key areas of collaboration, particularly in the industrial and energy sectors, with both sides underscoring the importance of the State Commission for Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan, as well as the Japan-Azerbaijan Economic Committee. The meeting also explored opportunities for strengthening interparliamentary cooperation, emphasizing the role of mutual visits in advancing bilateral ties.
Deputy Foreign Minister Mammadov provided Ishikawa with an update on Azerbaijan’s efforts to foster sustainable peace in the post-conflict period, including the challenges posed by landmines in liberated territories and ongoing rehabilitation projects in the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions.
Additionally, Mammadov informed his counterpart of Azerbaijan’s successful presidency of COP29, highlighting the nation’s leadership in the global fight against climate change. Ishikawa congratulated Azerbaijan on the successful hosting of COP29, acknowledging its significant contributions to climate action, including the establishment of the New Collective Quantitative Goal on Climate Finance and the Loss and Damage Response Fund.
Both sides agreed to convene the next joint meeting in 2025 to further solidify their growing relationship.
