The reaffirmation came during the 5th meeting of the CPEC Joint Working Group on International Cooperation and Coordination (JWG-ICC), held in Beijing. The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, according to a statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
Both sides acknowledged CPEC’s pivotal role in fostering regional connectivity, promoting win-win cooperation, and achieving common prosperity. They also emphasized the importance of engaging other countries in partnerships under the framework.
The meeting reviewed the progress achieved since the 4th JWG-ICC meeting held in Islamabad on January 21, 2024, expressing satisfaction with the advancements made.
Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch described CPEC as the cornerstone of economic cooperation between Pakistan and China and a shining symbol of their enduring friendship. Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong highlighted the synergy between CPEC 2.0’s five new corridors—growth, livelihood, innovation, open, and green corridors—and Pakistan’s national development framework, which prioritizes Exports, E-Pakistan, Energy, Environment, and Equity (5 E’s).
Both sides expressed their resolve to deepen cooperation in media, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people linkages to further strengthen the China-Pakistan community of shared future in the new era.
CPEC, a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), continues to serve as a catalyst for economic and social development in Pakistan, driving regional integration and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships.
