Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation in Key Sectors

Astana, January 13, 2025 – The Europe Today: Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have held high-level discussions to further enhance bilateral relations, focusing on political, trade-economic, investment, water-energy, transit-transport, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. The meeting took place between Murat Nurtleu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, and Jeenbek Kulubaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, in Astana.

Minister Kulubaev’s visit to Kazakhstan marks his first official trip to the country, following an invitation from Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening the alliance founded on friendship, brotherhood, and good-neighborliness.

Murat Nurtleu highlighted the political will of the two heads of state, which has propelled Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations to new heights. A pivotal moment in their cooperation was the signing of the Treaty on Deepening and Expanding Allied Relations, following the official visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov. This treaty is expected to further solidify economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties.

“We view Kyrgyzstan not only as a reliable ally but also as a brotherly neighbor, bound by centuries-old ties of friendship and shared Turkic heritage,” stated Nurtleu. In return, Kulubaev emphasized that the relationship between the two nations has reached an unprecedented level, now defined by deepened allied relations.

Earlier in the day, Kulubaev met with President Tokayev to discuss further steps in strengthening the partnership.
