Russian PM Mikhail Mishustin Arrives in Hanoi to Bolster Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Hanoi, January 14, 2025 – The Europe Today: Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin arrived in Hanoi early on January 14, commencing a two-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính.

The Russian delegation was welcomed at Nội Bài International Airport by Minister–Chairman of the Government Office Trần Văn Sơn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị Thu Hằng, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Đặng Minh Khôi, and Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich.

PM Mishustin’s delegation includes Deputy Prime Ministers Overchuk Alexey Logvinovich and Chernyshenko Dmitry Nikolaevich—who also chairs the Russian Sub-committee of the Russia-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation—alongside several high-ranking ministers and officials.

This marks PM Mishustin’s first visit to Vietnam, reflecting both countries’ shared commitment to consolidating and enhancing the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit is seen as pivotal in preparing for critical bilateral activities throughout the year and addressing shared priorities.

Russia has reaffirmed Vietnam as a reliable partner within its “Look East” policy, while Vietnam regards Russia as one of its top priorities in foreign relations. This visit underscores the mutual dedication to advancing a partnership that is intensive, substantive, and effective.

During the visit, Vietnamese and Russian leaders will discuss significant issues, outline future strategic directions, and identify key areas of cooperation in economy, trade, energy, science and technology, education, culture, and defense-security. They will also address challenges to ongoing bilateral projects, particularly in energy and industry, while exploring potential areas of collaboration to foster stronger ties.

The trip is expected to serve as a milestone in further enhancing the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia, paving the way for deeper and broader cooperation in the years to come.
