Baku, January 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Foreign Intelligence Service of the Republic of Armenia has included the issue of Western Azerbaijan in its military-political risk category, according to the service’s annual report published on January 23. The Western Azerbaijan Community has strongly criticized this classification, labeling it a distortion of their legitimate cause to return to their homeland peacefully and in accordance with international law.
In a statement, the Western Azerbaijan Community denounced Armenia’s approach, highlighting that Western Azerbaijanis had been subjected to ethnic cleansing and emphasizing their right to return in safety and dignity. “Presenting the endeavours of Western Azerbaijanis… as a security risk serves to distort this legitimate cause. This approach by Armenia proves that Armenia sees multi-ethnicity as a threat and that it continues its decades-old racist policy,” the statement read.
The Community further condemned what it described as the Armenian government’s “racist policy” and called on Armenia to respect international principles by ensuring the right of return for displaced Western Azerbaijanis.
This development underscores ongoing tensions surrounding ethnic and territorial issues in the region, with calls for adherence to international law and the principles of peaceful coexistence continuing to dominate discourse.
