Bogor, February 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has announced that Indonesia and Turkiye have agreed to enhance collaboration in defense and security, marking a significant step in the strategic partnership between the two nations.
“Indonesia and Turkiye will strengthen defense and security cooperation, including education and training for our armed forces personnel, intelligence cooperation, and counter-terrorism efforts,” President Prabowo stated during a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Wednesday.
President Prabowo also highlighted the agreement to expand joint production in the defense industry, reflecting the commitment of both countries to advancing technological cooperation and military capabilities.
President Erdogan affirmed Turkiye’s commitment to bolstering security and defense ties with Indonesia. He noted that further discussions would be held to refine the details of the cooperation.
“We have discussed the existing cooperation in defense and potential future collaboration in more detail,” Erdogan said, underscoring the depth of the bilateral engagement.
As part of Erdogan’s state visit, the two leaders convened the first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, where they formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on strategic cooperation in the defense industry. The agreement was officially ratified through a document signing between Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense and Turkiye’s Secretariat of the Defense Industries.
On the same occasion, Prabowo and Erdogan witnessed the establishment of a joint venture between Indonesia’s Republikorp and Turkiye’s Baykar to set up drone production factories, a move expected to enhance defense technology capabilities and strengthen industrial ties between the two nations.
The strengthened defense collaboration is expected to foster greater regional security and technological advancement, further solidifying Indonesia and Turkiye’s strategic partnership.
