Jakarta, April 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni has announced that Mount Rinjani’s climbing routes will officially reopen on April 3, 2025, following a three-month closure due to weather concerns and ecosystem restoration efforts.

“I want to share the good news that on April 3, nature lovers and mountain climbers can again enjoy the beauty of Mount Rinjani,” Minister Antoni stated on Thursday.

The climbing routes had been closed since January 1, 2025, based on warnings from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and to facilitate the recovery of the mountain’s ecosystem. After careful assessment, authorities have deemed it safe to reopen access to climbers.

Minister Antoni emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations and preserving Rinjani’s natural beauty. He urged climbers to follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) and guidelines set by Mount Rinjani National Park.

“Please do not compromise on safety and security. Continue to follow the instructions and regulations at the Mount Rinjani National Park,” he stated.

In addition, the minister highlighted the need for environmental responsibility, urging visitors to maintain cleanliness and respect the mountain’s pristine condition.

“Do not forget to dispose of your trash properly. We do not want our beautiful Mount Rinjani to be full of piles of garbage due to careless climbers. Once again, happy climbing on Mount Rinjani,” Antoni added.

The reopening announcement, made in March, confirms that all official climbing routes within Mount Rinjani National Park will be accessible, including Senaru, Torean, Sembalun, Timbanuh, Tetebatu, and Aik Berik routes.

The decision to reopen Mount Rinjani marks a significant moment for nature enthusiasts and the tourism sector, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.
