Tokyo, April 16, 2025 — The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Emperor Naruhito of Japan during his official visit to the country, with both sides affirming their commitment to strengthening Turkmenistan–Japan relations across multiple sectors.
According to Turkmenistan’s state media on Tuesday, the two leaders discussed opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly through the introduction of advanced Japanese technologies into Turkmenistan’s key economic sectors.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan remains committed to fostering innovation and expanding international cooperation in strategically important areas. The priority sectors identified for potential collaboration include energy production, oil and gas, the chemical industry, construction, transport, and agriculture.
He noted that these sectors are rapidly adopting modern technologies and are well-positioned to benefit from Japanese expertise and innovation.
The discussions also addressed broader issues of mutual concern, such as renewable energy development, digital transformation, environmental protection, and sustainable growth — all of which are critical to Turkmenistan’s national development agenda.
Earlier the same day, President Berdimuhamedov also held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Both meetings underscored Turkmenistan’s intention to deepen its strategic partnership with Japan and to actively pursue projects that promote technological advancement and sustainable development.
The visit marks an important step in reinforcing the longstanding ties between Turkmenistan and Japan and paves the way for enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
