Turkistan, April 22, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan held high-level talks with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, during his official visit to Kazakhstan’s spiritual capital, Turkistan, on April 22.

Welcoming the distinguished guest, President Tokayev expressed appreciation for Berdimuhamedov’s visit to Turkistan, emphasizing its symbolic and strategic importance. “It is gratifying to see the successful development of cooperation between our countries. We plan to implement strategically important projects in the gas and transport-logistics sectors. We are keeping this work under close control, as further quality development of economic cooperation depends on its successful execution,” he stated.

The President also extended his congratulations to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the commencement of the International Year of Peace and Trust, a Turkmenistan-led initiative recognized and supported by the United Nations. Tokayev noted that the global endorsement of this initiative is a testament to Turkmenistan’s high standing in the international community.

In response, Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised Kazakhstan as one of Turkmenistan’s key strategic partners. “Our bilateral relations in political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres have good prospects. We are thankful for Kazakhstan’s support of Turkmenistan’s initiative to proclaim the International Year of Peace and Trust within the UN,” he remarked.

The leaders held extensive discussions on strengthening the multifaceted strategic partnership across all areas of bilateral cooperation. Both sides highlighted the need to identify new areas of collaboration and implement systemic measures to raise bilateral trade volume to $1 billion in the near future.

Following their talks, the two leaders visited several cultural and historical landmarks in Turkistan, including the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, the Ethnoaul cultural complex, and the Turkistan Visit Centre.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to deepening ties in areas ranging from infrastructure and energy to cultural and humanitarian cooperation, further cementing their strategic partnership.
