Baku, April 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan has approved 167 state standards on occupational safety during 2024–2025, marking a significant step toward strengthening workplace safety and aligning national regulations with international best practices.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the standards were developed by the Technical Committee on Labor under the State Labor Inspection Service. The initiative is in line with the requirements of the International Labour Organization Convention No. 155 on Occupational Safety and Health.
Officials said the newly adopted standards aim to enhance a systematic approach to occupational safety, ensure safe and healthy working conditions across workplaces, and improve safety regulations based on advanced international practices.
Among the key measures is the implementation of AZS ISO 45001, which focuses on occupational health and safety management systems. The standard provides mechanisms for early identification of potential workplace hazards and promotes preventive measures through a structured and proactive approach.
It also emphasises the direct involvement of management in occupational safety processes and encourages active participation of employees in decision-making related to workplace safety.
The ministry further announced plans to develop and adopt an additional 60 state standards on occupational safety within the current year, reinforcing Azerbaijan’s commitment to improving labor conditions and safeguarding worker well-being.
