Jakarta, May 14, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prabowo Subianto has set a target for around 30,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives to become operational by July 2026 as part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the rural economy, according to Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono.
Speaking during a National Coordination Meeting of the Ministry of Cooperatives in Jakarta on Wednesday, Juliantono said the president aims to ensure that approximately 30,000 physical warehouses, outlets, and supporting facilities for the cooperatives are fully prepared for operation.
He noted that President Prabowo envisions the Red and White Village Cooperatives evolving into the world’s largest cooperative network once fully established and operational across the country.
The minister stated that construction work on the cooperatives is progressing in various regions throughout Indonesia. According to government data, 37,327 cooperatives are currently under development, with 8,927 projects already completed in full.
Juliantono further announced that the government will symbolically inaugurate the operations of 1,061 Red and White Village Cooperatives on May 16, 2026, in Nganjuk. The cooperatives selected for the inauguration are located in Central Java and East Java and are considered ready for immediate operation.
He added that another large-scale inauguration ceremony would be held after the government achieves its 30,000-unit operational target.
In addition to infrastructure development, the minister said the government is finalizing a presidential instruction to provide a formal legal framework for the operation of the Red and White Village Cooperatives program. The directive is expected to be issued before the May 16 inauguration ceremony.
The Indonesian government launched the Red and White Village Cooperatives initiative to serve as centers for economic and social services in rural communities, providing facilities such as savings and loan services, clinics, and other community support programs.
With more than 80,000 cooperatives institutionally established nationwide, the Ministry of Cooperatives is accelerating the construction of outlets, warehouses, and other supporting infrastructure to ensure the cooperatives are fully operational in the coming months.
