Jakarta, May 30, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and Tajikistan have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing more concrete and results-oriented bilateral cooperation across a range of priority sectors aimed at delivering tangible benefits for their peoples.
According to a statement issued by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, the commitment was reaffirmed during the Indonesia–Tajikistan bilateral consultation meeting held in Dushanbe on May 27, 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir and Tajikistan Deputy Foreign Minister Idibek Kalandar.
In his remarks, Nasir emphasized that Indonesia views Tajikistan as an important partner in strengthening connectivity and interregional cooperation between ASEAN and Central Asia, particularly amid evolving geopolitical dynamics and the growing need for inclusive global collaboration.
During the consultations, both sides agreed to develop a bilateral cooperation roadmap to guide long-term relations in a more structured, focused, and results-driven manner. The roadmap is expected to enhance coordination and ensure practical outcomes in key areas of cooperation.
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a Bilateral Consultation Committee, marking a new milestone in Indonesia–Tajikistan relations and laying the foundation for sustained diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
The two sides also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in economy, trade, education, downstream industries, and digital transformation, with a focus on supporting sustainable development objectives.
In the socio-cultural sphere, Indonesia and Tajikistan agreed to strengthen people-to-people ties through enhanced tourism cooperation, educational exchanges, and cultural programs designed to deepen mutual understanding between the two nations.
Indonesia further encouraged closer ASEAN–Central Asia engagement, including enhanced interaction between Tajikistan and ASEAN through potential accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and consideration of establishing a Tajik diplomatic mission or permanent representation to ASEAN in Jakarta.
Beyond bilateral matters, the two sides exchanged views on regional and global developments and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other in multilateral platforms and international forums.
