Finland Defeats Canada to Reach World Championship Final, Sets Up Clash with Switzerland

Zurich, May 31, 2026 – The Europe Today: Finland advanced to the final of the Ice Hockey World Championship after securing a 4-2 victory over Canada in the semi-final, keeping alive its hopes of capturing another world title.

The Finns delivered a decisive performance in the second period, where two quick goals within 1 minute and 22 seconds proved crucial in sealing the win.

Konsta Helenius gave Finland a 3-2 lead at 11:28 of the period before Aatu Räty extended the advantage to 4-2 at 12:50, putting Canada on the back foot for the remainder of the contest.

The victory sends Finland into its second World Championship final in recent years, having previously claimed the title on home ice in 2022 with a memorable victory over Canada in the championship game.

In Sunday’s gold-medal match, Finland will face host nation Switzerland, which booked its place in the final with a dominant 6-0 win over Norway in the other semi-final.

The championship showdown will see Finland aiming to add another world title to its record, while Switzerland will seek to capitalize on home advantage in pursuit of gold.
