Paris, June 19, 2026 – The Europe Today: A new heatwave sweeping across much of France has disrupted transport services and education activities, with dozens of train services cancelled and several schools adjusting or suspending classes as temperatures are expected to reach up to 40°C in the coming days.
Authorities have placed around a quarter of the country, including the capital Paris, under an orange weather alert and have urged residents to take precautions, avoid prolonged exposure to heat, and remain well hydrated amid rising temperatures.
According to the national meteorological agency Météo-France, the heatwave is expected to persist into next week, with peak temperatures forecast for Sunday or Monday. Forecasters warned that temperatures could climb as high as 40°C in parts of the country, including Paris.
The extreme weather conditions have led to significant disruptions in public transport, particularly rail services, as operators implemented safety measures to protect infrastructure and passengers. Meanwhile, several educational institutions have either suspended in-person classes or adjusted schedules to ensure student safety during the heatwave.
Meteorological officials continue to monitor the situation closely and have advised the public to limit outdoor activities during peak daytime hours, stay in shaded or cool areas where possible, and follow official guidance as the heatwave intensifies across the country.
