HCM City, July 1, 2026 – The Europe Today: Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday launched a series of commemorative activities marking the 50th anniversary of Sài Gòn-Gia Định officially being renamed Ho Chi Minh City, with senior leaders paying floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the Monument Park dedicated to the late leader.
The ceremony, held on Nguyễn Huệ pedestrian street in Sài Gòn Ward, was attended by a delegation of leaders from the city’s Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee. The delegation was led by Politburo member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, Trần Lưu Quang.
In a solemn ceremony, the delegates laid flowers and observed a minute of silence in honour of President Ho Chi Minh, paying tribute to the founding leader of modern Vietnam, revered as a national liberation hero and a world cultural figure.
The participants expressed profound gratitude for President Ho Chi Minh’s historic contributions to Vietnam’s struggle for national independence, reunification and national development. They also reaffirmed the city’s commitment to carrying forward the values of solidarity, innovation and dynamism while strengthening governance and promoting sustainable socio-economic progress.
City leaders pledged to continue building a clean and effective political system, improve the efficiency of public administration, achieve socio-economic development targets and further develop Ho Chi Minh City into a modern, civilised and compassionate metropolis while reinforcing its position as Vietnam’s leading economic centre.
The flower-offering ceremony officially inaugurated a series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of Sài Gòn-Gia Định formally adopting the name of President Ho Chi Minh on July 2, 1976.
The anniversary celebrations underscore the city’s respect and gratitude for the late leader while reaffirming the determination of its Party organisation, authorities, armed forces and residents to continue advancing the development of the city that proudly bears his name.
