Jakarta, July 9, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Ministry of Law has announced that its new partnership with Russia’s intellectual property authority, Rospatent, will strengthen the country’s intellectual property (IP) ecosystem while creating new opportunities for Indonesian innovators and businesses to access the Russian market.
The cooperation was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property and Rospatent in Geneva on July 7, underscoring both countries’ commitment to enhancing international collaboration in intellectual property protection and commercialization.
Director General of Intellectual Property Hermansyah Siregar said the agreement reflects Indonesia’s determination to expand its global partnerships to improve the protection, utilization, and development of intellectual property.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen capacity building, leverage technology, and create greater opportunities for Indonesian innovations and products to compete in the international market, including Russia,” Siregar said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Under the MoU, Indonesia and Russia agreed to pursue several strategic initiatives, including cooperation in digital data utilization, patent analysis, intellectual property valuation, information exchange, and exploring the implementation of a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) to accelerate patent examination processes.
The two countries also pledged mutual support within the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including backing Indonesia’s proposal at the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) and collaborating on the development of a multilingual system for international WIPO registrations.
Additionally, both sides agreed to strengthen the protection of geographical indications by exchanging expertise and best practices in the field.
Siregar expressed confidence that the agreement would deliver meaningful benefits for both nations by fostering innovation, enhancing intellectual property governance, and encouraging deeper bilateral cooperation.
As part of the follow-up to the agreement, Rospatent invited Indonesia to participate in a Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) project aimed at developing an intellectual property valuation website. In return, Indonesia invited Russia to attend the Global Forum on Cross-border Copyright Royalty Governance, scheduled to take place in Bali this October.
Siregar emphasized that the partnership is expected to strengthen the protection of creative works and technological innovations, support the growth of technology-driven enterprises and the creative economy, and expand international market opportunities for Indonesian businesses.
