Tashkent, September 02, 2024, The Europe Today: On September 02, Tashkent witnessed a solemn gathering of government officials and members of the public to honor the memory of Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan’s First President. The ceremony, attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was marked by a wreath-laying at Karimov’s monument, celebrating his pivotal role in the nation’s history.
Islam Karimov, who led Uzbekistan to independence and guided the country on a path of progress, is remembered for his significant contributions to the formation and development of the Uzbek state. In his speech during the Independence Day celebrations, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the profound impact of Karimov’s leadership: “It is thanks to independence that our national statehood was revived. Uzbekistan entered a new historical era. Thanks to independence, we have taken a worthy place in the world community.”
The ceremony paid tribute to the patriots who fought for independence and contributed to the formation of the state. In the context of the nation’s history, President Karimov’s leadership during challenging times was particularly acknowledged.
Surahs from the Quran were recited at the Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex named after Islam Karimov, highlighting his enduring legacy in maintaining peace, stability, and enhancing the well-being of the Uzbek people.
Representatives from the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, various ministries and agencies, as well as members of the public, participated in laying flowers at the monument to the First President.
In addition to the main ceremony in Tashkent, memorial events were also held in Samarkand and Karshi, reflecting a nationwide tribute to the founder of modern Uzbekistan.
