Baku, November 14, 2024 – The Europe Today: Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Philemon Yang, President of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79), on the sidelines of the COP29 climate summit in Baku.
The discussion centered on strengthening Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the United Nations, as well as key issues related to Azerbaijan’s role as the COP29 President. Minister Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan is closely monitoring the impacts of climate change both regionally and globally. In response, the country has accelerated its renewable energy transition at the national level as part of its commitment to sustainable development.
Minister Bayramov also underlined Azerbaijan’s dedication to multilateralism in addressing pressing regional and global challenges. He provided insights into several regional and international initiatives led by Azerbaijan, particularly highlighting the “Agreement between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Kazakhstan, and Republic of Uzbekistan on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy,” which was signed during COP29.
Reflecting on Azerbaijan’s leadership as COP29 President, Bayramov noted significant progress in advancing climate funding, thanks to the active involvement of international financial organizations.
Philemon Yang congratulated Azerbaijan on its successful COP29 presidency and expressed appreciation for the high-level organization of the session. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to combating climate change and conveyed the UN’s readiness to support Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts in addressing climate-related challenges.
