Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Visit Four African Nations, Strengthening China-Africa Relations

Beijing, January 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will embark on a visit to Namibia, the Republic of the Congo, Chad, and Nigeria from January 5 to 11, continuing a 35-year tradition of starting the year with a visit to Africa. The announcement was made on Friday by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

The visit aims to advance the implementation of outcomes from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and promote sustained and in-depth China-Africa relations, according to Mao.

At the FOCAC Beijing Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed elevating bilateral relations between China and African nations to the level of strategic partnerships. He further characterized the relationship as an “all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.”

President Xi also outlined six features for jointly advancing modernization and pledged ten partnership actions for modernization in collaboration with Africa. These initiatives have been warmly received by African leaders, Mao noted during the briefing.
