Iran and Russia Sign Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty in Moscow

Moscow, January 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a landmark Treaty on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on Friday, marking a pivotal moment in bilateral relations.

During the meeting at the Kremlin, President Pezeshkian emphasized the strategic, sensitive, and critical nature of Iran-Russia relations. He conveyed the greetings of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who advocates for regional self-management free from external interference.

“The Leader’s vision is for regional governments to manage their affairs without outsiders imposing their policies. Our cooperation will counter such external disruptions,” Pezeshkian stated.

The treaty aims to deepen collaboration across security, cultural, and commercial sectors. Pezeshkian hailed progress on the joint nuclear power plant project in Iran and confirmed a new agreement advancing this initiative into its operational phase.

President Putin underscored the treaty’s significance in diversifying and expanding bilateral ties, particularly in economic cooperation. He highlighted a 15% increase in trade between the two nations during the first ten months of 2024.

The leaders also discussed enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, logistics, and humanitarian efforts, alongside addressing regional and global issues of mutual concern.

This agreement solidifies the growing partnership between Tehran and Moscow, reflecting their shared commitment to fostering stability and prosperity in the region.
