Helsinki, February 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: Finland has unveiled a new military aid package for Ukraine, valued at over $200 million, bringing the total military assistance from the Nordic country to $3.1 billion.
President Alexander Stubb on Friday approved the government’s proposal for Finland’s 27th aid package to Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s war in early 2022. The latest package, worth nearly $207 million, will further bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, according to Finnish public broadcaster YLE.
“We are providing exactly the kind of support that will help Ukraine defend itself in an acute situation on the front,” said Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen in an official statement.
Last year, Finland and Ukraine signed a long-term security cooperation agreement during President Stubb’s visit to Kyiv. This pact made Finland the eighth NATO member to commit to sustained military, political, and financial backing for Ukraine in its ongoing resistance against Russian aggression.
Under the 10-year agreement, Finland pledged to “continue to provide long-term military, political, and financial support, as well as humanitarian assistance and civil protection support to Ukraine … for as long as it takes.”
Finland, which shares a 1,340-kilometer border with Russia, formally joined NATO last year, marking a significant policy shift prompted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
