Samarkand, April 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: Speaking at the inaugural “Central Asia – European Union” Summit held in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov outlined key areas of potential cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union, emphasizing the importance of economic, investment, energy, transport, and trade collaboration.
In his address, President Berdimuhamedov underscored Turkmenistan’s strong commitment to advancing a serious energy dialogue with the European Union, aimed at establishing a more substantive and practical partnership. “Turkmenistan is firmly committed to a serious energy dialogue with the EU at a new substantive level and is ready to take practical steps,” he stated, highlighting the country’s readiness to engage in focused discussions on renewable energy cooperation.
The President further expressed Turkmenistan’s enthusiasm to launch joint projects in the field of green energy. He specifically referenced opportunities for collaboration in wind, solar, and hydrogen energy sectors, which he identified as vital to the region’s sustainable development and energy security.
In addition to energy cooperation, President Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of transport and infrastructure as critical components of the EU-Central Asia strategic partnership. He pointed to the creation of East-West and West-East transport and communication corridors as a key priority. In this regard, Turkmenistan’s role in facilitating connectivity was emphasized, with the President offering the facilities of the Turkmenbashi seaport on the Caspian Sea and the country’s road infrastructure for use in enhancing regional trade and transport links.
The President also underscored the importance of developing underwater infrastructure in the Caspian Sea, which would serve as a key element in expanding regional and international connectivity.
The summit served as a platform for strengthening ties between Central Asia and the European Union, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration across multiple sectors to promote regional stability, economic growth, and sustainable development.
