Prabowo Welcomes Chinese Premier in Jakarta, Underscoring Close Bilateral Ties

Jakarta, May 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto received Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Merdeka Palace on Sunday, marking a significant moment in the strengthening of Indonesia-China relations. The official visit highlighted the enduring partnership and mutual commitment to advancing cooperation across various strategic sectors.

Premier Li’s motorcade, observed by ANTARA, was ceremoniously welcomed with an honor guard, the Presidential Security cavalry, and enthusiastic greetings from hundreds of junior and senior high school students waving Indonesian and Chinese flags along the route from the National Monument (Monas) to the Merdeka Palace.

At around 10 a.m. local time, Premier Li and his delegation arrived at the palace, greeted warmly by elementary and junior high school students waving the flags of both nations, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere. President Prabowo personally received Premier Li as he stepped out of his vehicle, and the two leaders exchanged a warm handshake before proceeding to the ceremonial podium.

The official welcome ceremony commenced with the national anthems of Indonesia and China, followed by a 19-cannon salute in honor of Premier Li’s visit. President Prabowo and Premier Li jointly inspected the honor guard, after which delegations from both countries were formally introduced.

Among the Indonesian officials present at the ceremony were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun.

Following the ceremony, President Prabowo escorted Premier Li to the Credential Room for a photo session and signing of the state guestbook, symbolizing the friendship between Indonesia and China.

The leaders then held a bilateral meeting joined by delegates from both sides, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation. Discussions focused on enhancing partnerships in key areas, including economic development, infrastructure, trade, investment, and regional stability.

This visit underscores the growing strategic alignment between Indonesia and China and reinforces their dedication to fostering strong and mutually beneficial relations.
