Azerbaijan-Maldives Visa Exemption Agreement for Diplomatic Passport Holders Enters into Force

Baku, June 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on the mutual exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, service, and official passports officially enters into force today, June 18, 2025.

The bilateral agreement was signed on November 15, 2024, during a meeting held in Baku between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, on the sidelines of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29).

Subsequently, the agreement was reviewed and ratified by the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 27, 2024, and later received the formal approval of the President of Azerbaijan.

The agreement aims to strengthen and promote friendly relations between the two nations by facilitating official travel for nationals holding valid diplomatic, service, or official passports. Under the terms of the agreement, eligible passport holders from both countries may enter, transit through, depart from, and stay in each other’s territory without the need for a visa for up to 90 days from the date of entry.

This development marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties between Azerbaijan and the Maldives.
