Iran Condemns U.S. Strikes on Nuclear Sites as “Brutal Aggression,” Urges IAEA Action

Tehran, June 23, 2025 — The Europe Today: The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has issued a forceful condemnation of what it described as “brutal military aggression” by the United States against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, calling the attacks a “flagrant violation” of the UN Charter and international law.

In a formal letter to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi on Sunday, the AEOI accused Washington of violating its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), particularly egregious for a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

The U.S. strikes—carried out in the early hours of Sunday using B-2 stealth bombers, “bunker-buster” bombs, and Tomahawk missiles launched from submarines—targeted Iran’s key nuclear sites in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. While no radiation leaks or civilian casualties have been reported, the AEOI confirmed damage to certain surface structures, including entry tunnels, and emphasized that enriched uranium had already been secured prior to the attack.

In its message to the IAEA, the AEOI demanded immediate condemnation of the U.S. strikes and urged the UN nuclear watchdog to initiate legal proceedings against what it termed “criminal complicity” by the agency’s leadership. The organization harshly criticized Grossi’s “repeated negligence,” noting that Iran had previously warned the agency about credible Israeli threats to its nuclear infrastructure.

The AEOI also announced that it would pursue legal measures through international institutions against what it described as Grossi’s “collusion” in facilitating the attacks and called upon peace-loving nations to uphold the NPT, drawing a stark contrast between Iran’s transparency and Israel’s undeclared nuclear capabilities and refusal to join the global treaty.

In a separate statement released via social media, the AEOI reaffirmed Iran’s determination to continue its peaceful nuclear program:

“With reliance on the efforts of the nuclear scientists of the homeland, we will continue the path of developing peaceful nuclear technology for the Iranian people with strength. The desperate attacks of the enemies cannot rival the will of this nation.”

The strike was claimed by former U.S. President Donald Trump in a televised address and a post on Truth Social. Trump asserted that the facilities had been “totally obliterated” and cited support from the Israeli leadership. He concluded with the remark, “God bless Israel,” underscoring what Tehran sees as overt alignment between U.S. and Israeli military objectives.

The Iranian Ministry of Health reports that the recent wave of hostilities, beginning with Israel’s June 13 attacks, has resulted in the deaths of over 430 civilians, including military personnel and nuclear scientists, with more than 3,500 wounded—many of them women and children.

Despite the severity of the situation, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi declined to condemn either the United States or Israel in a press briefing held hours after the strikes. He stated only that the agency would work to “assess the damage.” Analysts have warned that Grossi’s remarks reflect an institutional bias and possible intelligence-sharing with U.S. and Israeli officials, citing previously uncovered Iranian intelligence documents detailing Grossi’s private communications with Israeli authorities since assuming office in 2019.

As tensions mount, the Iranian government has vowed to maintain its peaceful nuclear efforts and called upon the international community to resist what it describes as unilateral militarism and unlawful use of force targeting sovereign infrastructure.
