Iranian Envoy Condemns Israeli and U.S. Military Aggression as Violation of International Law

London, July 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, has strongly condemned the recent military attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States on Iranian territory, calling them blatant violations of international law and human rights.

Speaking during the 59th session of the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva on the occasion of the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcome of Iran, Ambassador Bahreini criticized what he described as the silence and complicity of certain Western countries in the face of these aggressions.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran does not wait for permission from any foreign entity or government to defend its sovereignty,” Bahreini declared, invoking Article 51 of the U.N. Charter to reaffirm Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense.

He detailed that the military strikes by Israel, supported directly by the United States, have resulted in the deaths of more than 630 Iranian citizens, including dozens of women and children. The attacks, he said, have unlawfully targeted civilian infrastructure, residential areas, medical centers, and even peaceful nuclear facilities within Iran.

Bahreini denounced the double standards of some Western nations, asserting that Iran rejects their human rights recommendations due to what he termed their “hypocrisy” and their failure to uphold universal norms in the face of Israeli violations.

Highlighting what he called the Human Rights Council’s ineffectiveness in responding to Israeli crimes in Palestine and across the region, the Iranian envoy proposed the establishment of a commission to investigate the role of countries supporting the Israeli regime in committing war crimes.

He also urged the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to adopt a clear and unequivocal stance in condemning the aggression against Iran, and called for Israel and the United States to be held accountable for actions that threaten international peace and endanger civilian populations.

Ambassador Bahreini concluded his remarks by expressing appreciation for those nations that, in line with international principles, had condemned the attacks and expressed solidarity with Iran in defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
