Marrakech, September 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: Forty countries have issued a joint diplomatic statement at the United Nations, firmly reaffirming their unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara provinces.

The declaration was delivered on behalf of the coalition by the Central African Republic during the general debate of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva.

“We reaffirm our constant and unwavering support to the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its southern provinces,” the Central African representative said. The coalition also voiced strong backing for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, describing it as “serious and credible,” in line with the position of the UN Security Council.

The statement underscored the need to preserve “the strictly bilateral nature of interactions between member states, the Human Rights Council, and the High Commissioner,” stressing that these exchanges must remain focused on their core mission and avoid being misused as a forum for unproductive political disputes.

Citing the opening of numerous consulates general in the cities of Dakhla and Laayoune, the coalition highlighted this development as “tangible proof of growing international support,” noting that such momentum strengthens regional cooperation, promotes investment, and accelerates economic development across Africa.

Reiterating that the Sahara issue falls exclusively within the UN Security Council’s jurisdiction, the coalition described Morocco’s autonomy plan as “a realistic and pragmatic basis for achieving a lasting and consensus-based political solution.”

The 40 nations also acknowledged Morocco’s “sincere and continuous efforts” to promote peace, stability, and human rights. They welcomed the kingdom’s long-standing cooperation with the UN human rights system, particularly its constructive engagement with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and its support for the work of Morocco’s National and Regional Human Rights Commissions in Dakhla and Laayoune.

The coalition renewed its support for the revival of the UN-led political process through the Geneva roundtable discussions, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2756 adopted in October 2024.

Concluding the statement, the Central African Republic’s representative reaffirmed the coalition’s determination to work towards a peaceful, consensus-based settlement of the regional dispute, emphasising that its resolution would contribute to fulfilling the aspirations of African and Arab peoples for integration, development, and stability.
