American Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in Dakhla

RabatNovember 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: A delegation of American elected officials and business leaders from Great Neck, New York, arrived in the southern Moroccan city of Dakhla this week to assess the region’s economic potential and explore avenues for future cooperation under an existing partnership agreement between the two cities.

The delegation was received on Tuesday by the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and the President of the Dakhla City Council at the council headquarters. The visit forms part of a cooperation framework aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and developing joint projects in sectors of shared interest.

According to SNRT News, officials from the Dakhla City Council said the American delegation expressed strong interest in several key sectors, including renewable energy, the upcoming Dakhla Atlantic Port, as well as the region’s expanding agricultural output. These sectors have been central to Dakhla’s rapid emergence as a regional economic hub.

In an official statement, the Dakhla City Council emphasized that the visit aligns with ongoing efforts to bolster international partnerships that enhance the region’s investment appeal and support its development agenda. Members of the council attended the meeting, alongside the regional director of the Dakhla Regional Investment Center, who delivered an extensive presentation on local economic advantages and investment opportunities.

The visit coincides with the United States’ continued reaffirmation of its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the “serious, credible and realistic” basis for resolving the Western Sahara issue. Since Washington recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the region in December 2020, successive US administrations have upheld the position, calling it the most viable solution for a lasting political settlement.

In recent years, several American delegations, think-tank missions, and business groups have visited Dakhla and Laayoune, underscoring growing US interest in strategic and economic cooperation in Morocco’s southern provinces.

International support for the Autonomy Plan has also witnessed rising momentum. The latest UN Security Council resolution on Western Sahara, adopted last month, once again welcomed Morocco’s efforts and described the Autonomy Plan as “a serious and credible basis” for resolving the conflict, while urging all parties to engage constructively in the political process.

Additionally, an increasing number of countries in Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America have opened consulates in Dakhla and Laayoune, signaling broader diplomatic backing for Morocco’s approach and recognition of the stability and development underway in the region.

The growing international engagement reflects Dakhla’s rising status as a strategic economic and diplomatic hub, with expanding opportunities in trade, investment, and regional cooperation.
