Takengon, December 13, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto on Friday expressed deep empathy with flood-affected residents in Takengon, Aceh Tengah district, and reiterated the Indonesian government’s firm commitment to accelerate post-flood recovery efforts and ensure immediate assistance for affected communities.

During his visit, the President said he came to directly assess the situation and hear firsthand from local leaders, including the district head, deputy district head, and community representatives, on how recovery efforts could be expedited. “I came here today to meet, observe the situation, and hear directly from the district head, deputy district head, and community leaders about how we can accelerate the recovery efforts,” Prabowo said, according to a statement released by the Presidential Media Team.

President Prabowo emphasized that the government is determined to move swiftly in addressing the needs of residents impacted by the disaster, despite the challenging conditions on the ground. “The situation is quite difficult and concerning, but believe me, you are not alone. We are all determined to work hard to help alleviate the difficulties faced by all of you,” he reassured residents.

The visit formed part of a broader series of government evaluations in areas recently affected by natural disasters. Before continuing his journey to other locations, President Prabowo offered prayers for the safety and well-being of the residents and affirmed that government assistance would continue to be delivered. He also urged communities to remain patient, expressing confidence in a swift recovery. “God willing, we can quickly restore the situation for the better,” he said.

Devastating floods and landslides struck the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late November 2025 following prolonged high-intensity rainfall. According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of December 13, the death toll across the three provinces had reached 995, with Aceh accounting for 411 fatalities.

BNPB data further indicated that approximately 158,000 houses were damaged across 52 districts and cities, with the majority of the destruction recorded in Aceh, where around 138,500 homes were affected. The government has pledged to continue relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts to support affected communities and restore normalcy in the disaster-hit regions.
