Indonesia Launches Read Indonesia Platform to Promote National Literature Globally

Indonesia

Jakarta, December 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Indonesian Ministry of Culture on Tuesday launched the Read Indonesia platform, accessible via readindonesia.id, as a gateway to promote Indonesian literature on the global stage.

Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the initiative marks an important milestone in strengthening the international presence of Indonesian literary works. “This is more than just the launch of a digital platform; it is the first step toward building a sustainable, globally oriented promotion system for Indonesian literature,” Zon said in a press release received on Wednesday.

Through a single integrated platform, Read Indonesia provides comprehensive information on Indonesian literary works, author profiles, literary festivals, as well as achievements and awards. The platform is designed to serve as a reference for the global community, including readers, publishers, academics, and cultural institutions.

The minister noted that enhancing literary promotion is in line with Article 32, Paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which underscores the state’s responsibility to advance national culture within world civilization. He emphasized that literature, as one of the ten Objects of Cultural Advancement, plays a strategic role in introducing Indonesian cultural values to international audiences.

Zon also highlighted the vast potential of Indonesian literature that remains underrecognized globally, partly due to limited translations and insufficient international networking. According to him, Read Indonesia is designed not only as an information hub but also as a bridge connecting Indonesian authors, publishers, and readers across borders.

Meanwhile, Endah T. D. Retnoastuti, Director General of Cultural Diplomacy, Promotion, and Cooperation at the ministry, said the platform addresses the long-standing need for an integrated and globally accessible promotional medium for Indonesian literature.

She added that since early 2025, her office has established a Literary Promotion Team tasked with formulating strategies to expand the global reach of Indonesian literature, including facilitating the participation of Indonesian authors and publishers in international literary festivals and book forums.

The launch of Read Indonesia is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy efforts and enhance the visibility of its literary heritage on the world stage.
