Jakarta, December 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia is targeting consumer spending of Rp110 trillion (approximately US$6.56 billion) by the end of 2025, supported by nationwide shopping discount programs across malls and e-commerce platforms, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta, Airlangga said the government has rolled out a number of initiatives to stimulate domestic consumption, including the National Online Shopping Day and the Shop Locally in Indonesia campaign. He noted that these programs are expected to significantly boost consumer spending and contribute positively to national economic growth.
According to the minister, the Shop Locally in Indonesia campaign, organized by the Indonesian Retail and Tenant Association (Hippindo) across its member malls, is targeting transaction values of up to Rp30 trillion through January 4, 2026.
Meanwhile, the National Online Shopping Day program, held from December 10 to 16, recorded Rp35 trillion in transactions, reflecting strong consumer participation, he added.
Airlangga highlighted that discounts at participating outlets can reach up to 50 percent, supplemented by additional discounts of up to 25 percent and cashback offers of up to 10 percent, measures aimed at further stimulating consumer interest and purchasing power.
Beyond domestic consumption, the minister underscored the role of tourism in driving spending growth, expressing optimism that shopping tourism will increasingly attract foreign visitors. He pointed in particular to Malaysian tourists, who often combine leisure travel with shopping and frequently use the Whoosh high-speed rail service.
He also noted that shopping centers are playing an expanded role in the economy, with the government encouraging malls to function as productive spaces, including by accommodating people who work from anywhere, in line with evolving work and consumption patterns.
