Melbourne, January 3, 2026 – The Europe Today: A man has died after being shot in Melbourne’s inner suburbs during the early hours of Saturday, police said.
In a statement, police said officers responded shortly after midnight after hearing gunshots in Fitzroy, a suburb adjacent to Melbourne’s central business district (CBD). Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a man with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services provided medical assistance; however, the man, who has not yet been formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that the shooting occurred near an intersection approximately 100 metres from the Fitzroy Police Station. Investigators also said a vehicle was seen fleeing the area before first responders arrived.
As of 8:00 a.m. local time on Saturday, no arrests had been made, and police said investigations into the incident were ongoing.
