President Trump Approves Emergency Declarations for Ten States Amid Severe Winter Storm

Trump

Washington, January 25, 2026 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday approved emergency declarations for ten states across the Southeast as a powerful winter storm continues to disrupt wide areas of the country.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, the president stated that the emergency measures cover Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana, and West Virginia. He added that the administration is coordinating closely with state governors and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to mitigate the storm’s impact and ensure timely assistance.

Earlier on Saturday, President Trump had approved similar emergency declarations for South Carolina and Virginia. Such declarations temporarily remove certain spending barriers, enabling state governments to more rapidly deploy resources and request federal aid.

So far, at least 20 states have declared a state of emergency, including Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The winter storm has caused approximately 120,000 power outages across its path, including around 50,000 each in Texas and Louisiana. It has also disrupted air travel, leading to the cancellation of roughly 13,000 flights nationwide on Saturday and Sunday.
