New Zealand, Germany Agree to Deepen Strategic Partnership

Wellington, February 3, 2026 — The Europe Today: New Zealand and Germany have agreed to further strengthen and deepen their strategic partnership, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said on Tuesday.

The announcement followed talks held in New Zealand between Peters and his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul. After the discussions, the two ministers issued a joint statement reaffirming the importance of bilateral relations and their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors, according to media reports.

In addition, the ministers released a separate joint statement focusing on cooperation in Antarctica, underscoring their mutual interest in scientific research, environmental protection, and sustainable governance in the region.

According to a statement from the New Zealand government, Germany is New Zealand’s largest export market in Europe. Bilateral cooperation between the two countries spans a broad range of areas, including trade, science, space research, education, and tourism, reflecting the depth and diversity of the partnership.
