Madrid, March 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Government of Spain on Saturday strongly condemned an Israeli strike on a healthcare facility in Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, which reportedly killed twelve members of the medical and healthcare staff.
In a statement, Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.
“Attacks against hospitals, in this and other scenarios such as Gaza, are a flagrant and unacceptable violation of international humanitarian law, which must be investigated. Hospitals are never military targets,” the ministry said.
The Spanish government reiterated its firm commitment to protecting the work of medical professionals, particularly those operating in conflict zones where their efforts are essential for saving lives.
Spain also condemned continued Israeli attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), including a recent incident that set fire to barracks belonging to the Nepalese contingent serving within the mission.
Madrid reaffirmed its commitment to the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and expressed its unwavering support for UNIFIL’s mandate in maintaining peace and stability along the Lebanon-Israel border.
According to international reports, Israel has intensified military operations in southern Lebanon and the capital, Beirut, as part of its campaign against the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah. Several airstrikes have reportedly struck residential buildings, schools, and hospitals.
The International Organization for Migration reported that the Israeli offensive in Lebanon has resulted in 773 deaths, nearly 2,000 injuries, and the displacement of around 800,000 people.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah has launched retaliatory attacks against Israel following the joint Israeli-American strike on Iran and the ongoing war in Gaza.
