Ashgabat, March 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and Uganda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors following high-level talks held on March 24, 2026.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the current state of Turkmen-Ugandan relations and explored prospects for enhanced collaboration in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian fields.
The two officials expressed satisfaction over the steady development of bilateral ties, highlighting the importance of continued engagement at the highest and senior levels. In this regard, they underscored the significance of Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja’s participation in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in August 2025 in Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourist Zone, as well as Uganda’s active involvement in other international events hosted by Turkmenistan last year.
Emphasizing the need to deepen institutional engagement, both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening interaction between their respective foreign ministries. They confirmed mutual interest in holding the first round of political consultations between the two ministries in the second half of 2026 in Ashgabat.
The ministers also highlighted the importance of coordination within international organizations, particularly the United Nations, stressing joint efforts on issues related to peace, security, and sustainable development.
Special attention was given to enhancing trade and economic cooperation, including the potential establishment of platforms to facilitate business partnerships in key sectors such as agriculture, oil and gas, and other areas of mutual interest.
In addition, both sides discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in education, science, culture, sports, and tourism, aiming to strengthen people-to-people ties.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Turkmenistan and Uganda reaffirmed their shared commitment to further developing mutually beneficial cooperation across all areas of common interest.
