Wellington, May 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: New Zealand has announced a new round of sanctions targeting 20 individuals and entities linked to Russia over activities connected to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to Winston Peters, the latest measures focus on organisations and individuals allegedly involved in cyber-related operations, information activities, and financial services believed to be used to circumvent existing international restrictions.
Officials stated that the sanctions also target an alternative payment service provider in an effort to restrict financial channels that could facilitate transactions associated with the war in Ukraine. Peters said the measures are aimed at preventing the misuse of online platforms and financial systems in ways that support activities related to the conflict, while also reinforcing compliance with international sanctions regimes.
The new restrictions further include entities linked to Russia’s defence-related industries, along with organisations based in third countries that are reportedly connected to Russian military supply chains.
The announcement follows earlier amendments to New Zealand’s sanctions framework introduced in February, when additional individuals and entities were designated and adjustments were made to restrictions concerning Russian oil pricing in coordination with international partners.
New Zealand has continued to align its sanctions policy with allied nations since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, maintaining that such measures are intended to support international law and regional stability.
