Ankara, May 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Republic of Türkiye and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on Thursday signed 13 agreements covering a wide range of sectors, including trade, transport, media, disaster management, industry, agriculture, and investment cooperation.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, following high-level talks in Ankara and the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between the two countries.
Both leaders also signed the joint declaration of the council’s first session, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple domains.
The agreements included memorandums and protocols on postal services, telecommunications, international passenger and freight transport, mutual recognition and exchange of driving licences, disaster and emergency management, and social welfare support for independence veterans and families of martyrs.
In the economic and industrial sphere, memorandums were signed on industrial cooperation, standardisation, conformity assessment, and training, aimed at strengthening technical collaboration between the two countries. Additional agreements focused on cooperation in plant protection and quarantine in the agricultural sector.
A significant development in trade relations came with the signing of a declaration launching negotiations for a preferential trade agreement, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade flows and economic integration.
Media cooperation was also reinforced through a memorandum on combating disinformation, as well as separate agreements between Türkiye’s public broadcaster TRT and Algeria’s public broadcasting organisation, EPRS, covering television and radio collaboration.
Investment cooperation was further strengthened through a memorandum between Türkiye’s Investment and Finance Office and the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, aimed at encouraging mutual investment flows and joint economic initiatives.
The agreements were signed by senior ministers and officials from both sides, including foreign affairs, trade, transport, agriculture, industry, communications, and investment portfolios.
The wide-ranging package of agreements reflects the growing strategic partnership between Ankara and Algiers and underscores their shared commitment to expanding cooperation in both traditional and emerging sectors.
