Tuban, May 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has praised a series of agricultural innovations supporting Indonesia’s national goal of achieving food self-sufficiency, saying other countries may eventually adopt similar approaches.
Speaking at a corn harvest event and the inauguration of 10 food reserve facilities built by the National Police in Tuban District, East Java, the President highlighted the importance of innovation in strengthening national food security.
“Amid crises, Indonesia has innovative sons and daughters who never give up and are eager to seek new knowledge,” the President said on Saturday.
He pointed to several innovations, including corn cob-based briquettes and coal-derived fertilizer, describing them as sustainable solutions that support ongoing food security initiatives led by the Indonesian Police.
President Prabowo also encouraged broader adoption of innovative fertilizers, expressing confidence that they could help Indonesia achieve self-sufficiency in fertilizer production.
In a lighter moment, he joked that foreign guests attending the event might learn from Indonesia’s agricultural advancements.
“I may have made a mistake by inviting them, as they could learn about our innovations. But that’s okay. For humanitarian reasons, you are welcome to replicate what Indonesia has achieved,” he said.
Before his remarks, the President observed demonstrations of police-led agricultural innovations, including hybrid corn seeds, coal-based fertilizer applications, and briquette production from corn cobs.
According to officials, 36 regional police offices are participating in the second-quarter corn harvest programme, covering more than 189,000 hectares, with 1,608 hectares harvested simultaneously on Saturday.
