Jakarta, May 19, 2026 – The Europe Today: PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) has recorded initial production of 1,321 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) from the LLA-6 development well located on the LLA Platform offshore in the northern waters of West Java, the company announced on Monday.
PHE ONWJ Senior Manager of Subsurface Development and Planning, Adang Sukmatiawan, said the success of the LLA-6 well was achieved by applying lessons learned from the LLE-5ST well drilled last year.
“The success of the LLA-6 well was based on experience from the LLE-5ST well that we drilled last year. Given the same target layer, we refined both the formulation and strategy,” Adang said in a statement.
In addition to oil production, the well also generated initial gas production of 2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). The hydrocarbon flow from the well was reported to be naturally strong, with a Basic Sediment and Water (BSW) content of zero percent, indicating the recovered oil was completely pure.
Adang explained that drilling operations for the LLA-6 well commenced on March 24, 2026, using a PVD-II rig. The drilling reached a final depth of 5,407 feet measured depth (ftMD), equivalent to 3,561 feet true vertical depth (ftTVD).
The entire process, from drilling to the production flow test conducted on May 2, 2026, was completed within 33 days.
According to the company, the accelerated construction period contributed significantly to operational efficiency and cost savings. Based on the latest field estimates, the total expenditure for the LLA-6 well amounted to only 61.5 percent of the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) approved by SKK Migas.
Adang described the nearly 40 percent savings as a major achievement for the company.
Meanwhile, PHE ONWJ General Manager Muzwir Wiratama praised the dedication and hard work of the entire operational team involved in the project.
He stated that achieving optimal production results while maintaining cost efficiency reflects the company’s strong commitment to supporting sustainable domestic energy security in Indonesia.
Wiratama added that the company is now shifting its operational focus towards the next drilling targets at the LLA-5 and LLA-7 wells.
“There are more drilling initiatives planned in the future. We hope the LLA-5 and LLA-7 wells will produce comparable or better results. We are doing everything possible to strengthen Indonesia’s oil and gas production,” he said.
