London, June 14, 2026 — The Europe Today: The United Kingdom and Japan are set to finalize investment agreements worth approximately £18 billion, a move expected to generate tens of thousands of jobs and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced.
Prime Minister Starmer will host Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Downing Street on Sunday ahead of the upcoming G7 summit, where more than 10 commercial and government agreements are expected to be formally signed, according to media reports.
The investment package includes a major £9 billion offshore wind project, alongside a new strategic agreement between Rolls-Royce and Japan’s Atomic Energy Agency to deepen collaboration on the development of next-generation nuclear and advanced energy technologies.
The initiative is designed to attract significant Japanese investment into the UK economy, supporting infrastructure development, accelerating clean energy transition efforts, and creating substantial employment opportunities across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Starmer said the agreements would bring multibillion-pound investment into the United Kingdom, generate tens of thousands of jobs, and support new economic development projects nationwide.
In addition to energy cooperation, Japanese and British business leaders are expected to participate in high-level discussions focused on identifying future opportunities for economic growth and industrial collaboration between the two countries.
According to Downing Street, the talks will also explore mechanisms to enhance access for UK defence companies to Japanese investment, reflecting a broader effort to strengthen cooperation in strategic and high-technology sectors.
The forthcoming agreements highlight the deepening economic partnership between the UK and Japan, particularly in areas such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and defence technology, as both countries seek to reinforce supply chain resilience and drive long-term economic growth.
The meetings in London are expected to set the stage for further cooperation during the G7 summit, where global economic stability, technological innovation, and sustainable development will be key priorities on the agenda.
