Pakistan

Islamabad, June 18, 2026 – The Europe Today: Cuban Ambassador to Pakistan Damián Cordero Torres met with Member of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Pakistan–Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, Syed Mustafa Mehmood, to discuss bilateral relations and matters of mutual international concern.

During the meeting, held in Islamabad on June 17, both sides exchanged views on current global developments, with particular focus on the situation in Cuba.

The Pakistani parliamentarian expressed concern over the challenges faced by the Cuban people. In response, the Cuban ambassador briefed him on the prevailing difficulties confronting the country, attributing them to the intensified impact of the United States’ longstanding blockade, including what he described as its adverse effects on energy supplies and the broader economy.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between the parliamentary friendship groups of both countries. He underlined that enhanced parliamentary engagement would help improve communication, deepen mutual understanding, and support initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral relations through legislative channels.

Ambassador Torres appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic approach and congratulated Syed Mustafa Mehmood on Pakistan’s continued commitment to promoting peace through constructive engagement at the international level.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to further enhance parliamentary diplomacy and foster closer ties between Pakistan and Cuba.
