Algiers, June 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has praised the People’s National Army (PNA) for its leading role in advancing the country’s mechanical industry, describing it as the “locomotive” of Algeria’s industrial development during the opening of the 57th Algiers International Fair (AIF).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Exhibition Palace in Algiers, President Tebboune said the military’s achievements in manufacturing reflect its discipline, determination, and highly skilled workforce. He expressed confidence that Algeria could produce a fully domestically manufactured engine and gearbox by 2028, urging startups to collaborate with the military’s mechanical industry as subcontractors in support of producing a fully Algerian-made automobile.
During his visit to the pavilion of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), the president highlighted progress at the Fiat automotive plant in Oran, noting that its local integration rate has surpassed 30 percent and is expected to rise to between 40 and 45 percent as more Algerian suppliers join the production chain.
Commending the contribution of private sector companies to the country’s industrial growth, President Tebboune emphasized the importance of integrating startups into national manufacturing efforts. He also called for greater reliance on domestic production and a reduction in imports of spare parts, except for highly specialized technical components.
The Algerian president underscored the country’s engineering talent, stating that Algeria possesses highly qualified professionals who should be given greater opportunities to contribute to national economic development.
Addressing investment reforms, President Tebboune praised the government’s one-stop investment system, describing it as a transparent and effective mechanism that simplifies administrative procedures while strengthening anti-corruption efforts. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating imports of machinery and essential raw materials for investors by granting automatic approvals for equipment related to new investment projects.
At the pavilion of Sonelgaz International, a subsidiary of the Sonelgaz Group, President Tebboune lauded the company’s growing competitiveness following the implementation of its first energy projects in Niger. He reiterated Algeria’s commitment to supporting African countries in the energy sector.
The president also toured the pavilions of several participating countries, calling for stronger economic partnerships and expanded international cooperation.
Held under the theme “Trust and Stability for Sustainable Growth,” the 57th Algiers International Fair has brought together 781 national and international companies from 36 countries. Spain is participating as the event’s guest of honour, with the exhibition concluding on June 27.
