Azerbaijani Delegation Pays Tribute to Late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran

Tehran, July 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: An Azerbaijani delegation led by Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova arrived in Tehran on July 3 to participate in the farewell ceremony for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The delegation was received upon arrival at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport by Deputy Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly Ali Nikzad, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran Ali Alizada, and other Iranian officials.

Following the reception, the Azerbaijani delegation proceeded to the Mosallah Complex in Tehran, where the official farewell ceremony was held in honor of the late Iranian leader.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and other senior Iranian officials. During the meetings, she conveyed the condolences of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev over the passing of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The Azerbaijani delegation also included Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Samir Sharifov, Prime Minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Jabbar Musayev, and other senior government officials.

The visit underscored the close diplomatic engagement between Azerbaijan and Iran and reflected Azerbaijan’s solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people during the period of national mourning.
