Dallas, July 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: Spain secured a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final with a commanding 2-0 victory over France on Tuesday at Dallas Stadium in the United States.
La Roja took the lead in the 22nd minute after France defender Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal inside the penalty area. Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted the resulting penalty, sending goalkeeper Mike Maignan the wrong way to give Spain a deserved advantage.
Spain dominated much of the first half, controlling possession with quick, precise passing and creating several promising opportunities, while France struggled to establish attacking momentum against a disciplined Spanish defence.
Defender Aymeric Laporte delivered an impressive performance alongside Pau Cubarsí, helping to neutralise France’s attacking threats despite an early booking for left-back Marc Cucurella.
Spain doubled their lead in the 58th minute through a well-crafted team move. Pedro Porro combined brilliantly with Dani Olmo, who returned a perfectly timed reverse pass, allowing Porro to finish confidently past Maignan and effectively seal Spain’s place in the final.
With the victory, Spain advance to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina. France will compete in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
